Overview
Hope Foundation provides community-based health and social services in support of Guyana’s national goal to reduce the spread of HIV. The organization reaches out to key populations through educational programs and services. Based in Bartica, Hope Foundation provides services in Cuyuni-Mazaruni (region 7) of Guyana as well as regions 3 and 10. After twenty (20) years of service, the organization has grown to widen its portfolio of services provided.

Hope Foundation to date has seen definite evidence of capacity strengthening and reinforcement of its organizational structure. The Executive Committee (Board of Directors) oversees the efficient operations of the organization’s mission. This body consists of members from various professions including education, prisons service, business community, community based organizations (CBOs) and faith based organization (FBOs). They are versatile and form a unique team. This body ensures the participation of members in the strategic planning process and provides leadership which helps to define and foster networks/partnerships between itself and community stakeholders, local and national Governmental agencies in accomplishing Hope Foundation’s mandate, by-laws, policies and strategic direction. During the past eighteen (18) years this agency has developed its capacity to successfully manage, implement, monitor, and evaluate sustained programmes and services within the scope of work and provided technical assistance to other organizations.

Years of Service
Twenty (20) years. Hope Foundation, envisioned as an established lead civil society agency in Bartica, region 7 Cuyuni/Mazaruni, has grown since it was created in 1996. Currently, providing quality community based health and social services, and youth friendly services through skills training, education, and care and support services, with linkages to other service providers by referrals.

This agency commenced in response to the rising incidents of HIV /AIDS in 1996 under the name ” Cry of AIDS Project.” This NGO has over the years evolved with a new name of Hope Foundation and developed into a service provider agency within this hemisphere providing relevant services necessary in combating the HIV epidemic and other social issues. Due to its strong community mobilization skills, Hope Foundation has rallied various segments of the Bartica and Hinterland communities. Mobilised groups include in-school and out-of-school youths, faith based organisations (FBOs), small businesses/private sector, local media, mining and logging companies, the correctional system at the Mazaruni Prisons, and other target groups surrounding riverain communities to put efforts together towards HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns, outreach activities, educational programmes and training, fundraising events, and community developmental programs.

Purpose
To work towards the national goal of reducing the spread of HIV through education, counselling, and other facilities along with providing services, skills training, and mentoring programmes in a youth friendly space and outreach programmes in Bartica and its environs. Hope Foundation’s staff is expected to be committed to the strategy implementation and execution in terms of the following:

Creating a strong results orientation and a spirit of high performance.

Building a strategy-supportive work environment.

Linking the reward structure to actual strategic performance.

Hope Foundation’s direction and priorities are defined by the following strategic objectives:

To promote HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention knowledge that leads the Bartica Community and environs to behavioural change.

To reduce the psychosocial impact and enhance care to persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and other social issues in the Bartica community and its environs.

To mobilize the necessary resources needed to sustain the work of Hope Foundation.

To further the development of Hope Foundation’s staff and members via supplementary education and training.

To work towards the national goal of reducing the spread of HIV through community outreach programmes.

Core Focus
Providing quality community based health, social, and youth friendly services through education, care and support, and capacity building in Bartica and other communities of region 7.

Aspirations for the Future

To become a sustainable organisation through the delivery of products and services.

Expand capacity building programmes and vocational skills training which can serve as a catalyst for job creation opportunities and contribute significantly to the new township’s ability to retain commendable employment; in particular for at-risk youths, single parents and women, so that they could experience the good life.

Greater engagement in community developmental projects for community progress.

Establish a Vocational Centre in Bartica that serves as a hub for community based health, social, and youth friendly services.
